8BitDo and Rare Release Orion X Pro+ Rare 40th Anniversary Edition Xbox Controller
8BitDo announced the release of the Orion X Pro+ Rare 40th Anniversary Edition controller, a limited-edition accessory designed in collaboration with Rare Studios. This launch represents 8BitDo’s first officially licensed 2.4GHz wireless controller for Xbox, expanding the company’s presence in the console accessory market.
Rare Studios, founded in 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The studio is best known for classic titles such as GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, and more recent releases like Sea of Thieves. To highlight this milestone, the Orion X Pro+ Rare Edition adopts a distinct blue and gold design, with decorative details referencing Rare’s history. The left cross-shaped directional pad is made of zinc alloy, offering a premium finish alongside the anniversary theme.
The controller is designed to fit users with small to medium-sized hands, addressing ergonomics for a wider range of players. It is equipped with Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, a technology that reduces wear and improves long-term durability compared to traditional components. 8BitDo has also integrated its Real Trigger technology for more precise input, particularly in fast-paced and competitive games.
In addition to the standard Xbox layout, the Orion X Pro+ Rare Edition includes two rear mappable buttons (P1 and P2). These can be assigned to different in-game functions, giving players more flexibility without reaching for face buttons. Such customization features are often sought after in modern controllers, especially by players who value quick response options.
Powering the controller is a built-in 1000mAh rechargeable battery, capable of delivering up to 20 hours of use on a single charge. To support convenience, the package includes a charging dock that features automatic start and stop charging, reducing unnecessary power consumption while ensuring the controller is always ready for use.
The Orion X Pro+ Rare 40th Anniversary Edition is part of 8BitDo’s growing lineup of Xbox-compatible devices. With this release, the company expands its footprint in the officially licensed market while paying tribute to Rare’s contribution to the gaming industry over the last four decades. Availability details and regional pricing are expected to follow through official retail channels.
