Some mini PCs impress not only with their size, but also with their details. In the case of a model with an AMD Ryzen 5 APU that is now being presented by a Chinese manufacturer, this is a kind of "speed wheel" on the case, with which you can call up more performance if necessary. The Chatreey AMR5 Mini PC is basically a kind of AMD-based NUC, which is a very small desktop PC with a CPU that is actually intended for use in notebooks. Under the hood is the above-mentioned AMD platform, which is supposed to provide more than sufficient performance in office or multimedia use with a total of six cores and 12 threads as well as an integrated AMD Radeon Vega 7 GPU .

Above all, the tiny PC has one interesting feature: It is intended for operation in a vertical orientation, with the power button on the upper housing also containing a rotary wheel. This allows the user to choose between three operating modes. There is still enough power for audio and video playback in silent mode, but otherwise it is throttled to the minimum to enable completely silent operation. In the so-called balance mode, a balanced operation with good performance but the lowest possible noise emissions should be possible, while the performance mode should of course offer as much performance as possible in order to be able to work smoothly in games or other demanding tasks. The user also recognizes the selected mode from the changing LED lighting in the power button.

Apart from its "speed wheel", the Chatreey AMR5 offers good barebone equipment, so it can be equipped with up to 64 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM in SODIMM format if desired. It also has two M.2 2280 slots that can accommodate PCIe NVMe SSDs . Access to the main memory and the SSD slots is via a magnetic side cover, so no tools are required. Other features include Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6, a copper cooling system with a fan, HDMI and DisplayPort connections, one Type-C and four USB Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port and, of course, an audio connection. The device will be shipped via AliExpressoffered as a barebone version at prices starting at 476 euros, but can also be purchased in preconfigured versions if desired.

The side panel that covers the memory and storage can be removed without a screwdriver – it's held in place with a strong magnet, which means you can open the case just by pulling from the side. The system measures 156.1 x 132.9 x 71.8 mm (6.15″ x 5.23″ x 2.83″) and weighs 581 grams.

Pricing starts at $413 for a barebones model, but the Chatreey AMR5 can also be ordered with 8GB to 64GB of memory and 512GB to 2TB of storage pre-installed.
