GPD DUO Dual-Screen OLED Notebook Featuring Latest AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Processor


GPD unveiled its latest handheld game console, the GPD DUO dual-screen OLED notebook, today. Notably, this new device will bypass the previously anticipated 8840U processor and instead utilize the cutting-edge AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, code-named Strix Point.

Advanced Processing Power

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is built on the latest Zen5 architecture and employs a 4nm process. This powerhouse processor boasts 12 cores and 24 threads, with a turbo frequency peaking at 5.1GHz. Its total computing power is an impressive 80 TOPS (trillion operations per second). GPD's official testing has revealed that in the Cinebench 2024 benchmark, the single-core performance of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 rivals that of the desktop AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. Furthermore, its multi-core performance surpasses that of the desktop AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, making it a formidable competitor in both mobile and desktop computing arenas.

Exceptional Graphics and Memory

The processor integrates the RDNA 3.5 architecture AMD Radeon 890M core graphics, featuring 16 compute units (CUs) and 1024 stream processors—a 33% increase in specifications over its predecessor. This enhancement translates to a 36% boost in gaming performance. Complementing this is the inclusion of LPDDR5x memory running at 7500 MT/s, which significantly increases memory bandwidth.

In terms of graphical prowess, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370's GPU achieves a 3DMark TimeSpy score that surpasses the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 (mobile version) and approaches the performance of the RTX 3050 (mobile version). This positions the GPD DUO as an excellent choice for gaming enthusiasts seeking top-tier mobile performance.

Advanced NPU and Connectivity

The processor also features the XDNA 2 architecture NPU, which enhances computing efficiency while reducing overall power consumption. The NPU offers a 50 TOPS computing power, which is 5 TOPS higher than the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and 12 TOPS more than the Apple M4's 10-core CPU.

For connectivity, the GPD DUO includes an Oculink (SFF-8612) mother port, providing a PCIe direct connection with an effective bandwidth of 63Gbps. This supports eGFX devices such as the GPD G1, collectively offering an overall computing power of 108 TOPS. Additionally, the HDMI supports the 2.1 TMDS specification, further enhancing its versatility.

Dual-Screen Display and Other Features

The GPD DUO boasts dual 13.3-inch Aurora AM-OLED full screens with a resolution of 2880 × 1800. These displays support a 60Hz refresh rate, 10-point touch capability, and 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity under the MPP protocol. The screens deliver a peak brightness of 500 nits and native 10-bit color depth, covering 100% of the Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts. Each display is factory calibrated to ensure a Delta E < 1 for color accuracy.

Moreover, the secondary screen's USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode video input, allowing it to function as a portable display for gaming consoles.

Expansion and Power

In terms of expandability, the GPD DUO is equipped with a comprehensive array of interfaces, including an Oculink graphics card expansion dock interface, USB4, and a 2.5GbE wired network port. It also features a high-definition camera with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 and an 80Wh battery to ensure prolonged usage.

Development and Availability

The GPD DUO is currently in the debugging phase, with internal testing slated to begin in July. Weight information and pricing details are expected to be released at the same time. If all goes according to plan, crowdfunding and pre-sales will commence in August.
