GPD Introduces the Pocket 4: A Convertible Mini-Laptop with Modular Expansion and Ryzen Power

Earlier this year, GPD introduced the WIN Mini 2024, a gaming-focused mini laptop that combined portability with robust gaming capabilities. Now, the company has unveiled the GPD Pocket 4, a device aimed at mobile professionals, engineers, and maintenance personnel. Designed for versatility, this compact notebook comes with expandable modules and impressive specifications, starting at a pre-sale price of 4,999 yuan (~$687.43).

Compact and Versatile Design

The GPD Pocket 4 stands out with its ultra-compact 8.8-inch screen design, measuring just 206.8mm x 144.5mm x 22.2mm and weighing 770g. Encased in an all-aluminum CNC-machined body, it exudes durability and premium aesthetics. The T-shaped hinge allows for a 180-degree opening angle and enables the screen to rotate 180 degrees on the Y-axis. This functionality transforms the notebook into a tablet, offering flexibility for a variety of usage scenarios.

High-Quality Display

The device features an 8.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, a 97% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, and a 144 Hz refresh rate. With a brightness of 500 nits and support for 10-point touch, the display delivers sharp visuals and intuitive interaction. Whether for presentations, design work, or casual browsing, the screen is built to impress.

Compact Keyboard and Integrated Mouse

Given its size, the keyboard layout is necessarily compact. While it may not match the typing experience of larger laptops, the inclusion of a three-button mouse and touchpad between the screen and keyboard enhances usability, especially when held with both hands.

Extensive Connectivity and Modular Expansion

The GPD Pocket 4 includes a broad range of connectivity options:

  • USB4
  • Full-function USB-C 3.2 Gen2
  • USB-A 3.2 Gen2
  • USB 2.0
  • HDMI 2.1
  • RJ45 Ethernet
  • Audio jack
  • Power jack

Additionally, it features a microSD card reader, which can be swapped out for optional modules such as EIA RS-232, HDMI input, 4G LTE, or a single-port KVM module. This modular approach allows the Pocket 4 to cater to specialized industrial and professional applications, though these modules are sold separately.

Performance and Configurations

The GPD Pocket 4 is available in three configurations:

  1. Base Model: Ryzen 7 8840U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD – priced at 4,999 yuan (~$687.43).
  2. Mid-Range Model: Ryzen AI 9 365, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD – priced at 6,500 yuan (~$893.84).
  3. High-End Model: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD – priced at 8,300 yuan (~$1,141.36).

For most users, the base model provides sufficient performance, thanks to the enhanced CPU, GPU, and processing power of AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series. The higher-end models cater to demanding applications and intensive multitasking.
