Retroid Unveils Dual-Screen Controller Accessory with 5.5-Inch AMOLED Display

Retroid has officially introduced a new dual-screen controller accessory aimed at enhancing the handheld gaming experience. Announced yesterday, the new accessory adds a second display to compatible handhelds, enabling a setup that closely resembles the dual-screen layout found in systems like the Nintendo DS.

The main highlight of the accessory is its 5.5-inch AMOLED screen. The panel features a resolution of 1920x1080, supports touch input, and offers up to 500 nits of brightness. It has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 and a color gamut rated at 107% sRGB, indicating strong visual performance for gaming and media applications.

Weighing approximately 130 grams, the accessory is built with portability in mind. While it does not include its own battery, it draws power from the host device. This design helps keep the accessory lightweight but also requires a direct connection to a compatible handheld or supported device for operation.

Retroid states that the accessory is compatible with several of its handheld consoles, including the Pocket 5, Pocket Mini, Pocket Mini V2, and Pocket 4 Pro. It also supports third-party devices that meet specific requirements: a USB-C interface with DisplayPort output and a screen size between 6 and 7 inches. This opens up usage for a wider range of devices beyond Retroid’s own ecosystem.

The screen hinge allows for three angle adjustments—120, 150, and 180 degrees—offering some flexibility based on user preferences and gameplay scenarios. This functionality may appeal to users looking for a DS-style experience in emulated games or those who benefit from an additional display for multitasking.

The accessory is available in three color options: black, GC (a reference to the GameCube's distinctive purple shade), and transparent. Retroid has priced it at $69 USD. The company’s listing indicates that the package will include a screen protector and a storage bag, though it is not clear if these are standard inclusions or optional add-ons.

As of now, the dual-screen controller has not yet gone on sale, and no official shipping date has been provided. Interested users can expect more information once Retroid updates its storefront or product pages with launch details.

This new release reflects a growing trend in the handheld gaming space, where manufacturers are looking for new ways to enhance the functionality and appeal of portable consoles. The dual-screen accessory could offer a practical solution for users who want more from their handheld setup without resorting to larger or more complex devices.
