MINISFORUM Launches UM690WT: A Refreshing Twist to Mini PC Design

MINISFORUM, the innovative tech company known for its compact yet powerful mini PCs, has unveiled its latest addition to the UM690 family – the UM690WT. Departing from the conventional design seen in its predecessors, the UM690WT introduces a fresh aesthetic and enhanced user experience. Priced at 1,799 yuan (~$248.59) for the barebone system, the question arises: does it live up to the expectations set by its predecessors?

The UM690WT inherits the lineage of its predecessors such as the UM690, UM690s, UM480XT, UM560XT, and UM773, among others. However, it distinguishes itself with a striking white exterior, a departure from the subdued black and limited edition pink Sakura variants seen before.

One of the most notable design changes is the introduction of a magnetic top cover, replacing the need to remove the bottom cover for maintenance. Adorned with a pearlescent white diamond pattern, the UM690WT exudes a sense of modernity and elegance.

Internally, the UM690WT offers versatility with a fixed bracket for a 2.5-inch hard drive within the top cover, allowing users to install an additional mechanical or solid-state drive. Moreover, purchasers will receive a top cover equipped with an 8cm silent fan, enhancing heat dissipation efficiency for the memory and hard drive components.

In terms of connectivity, the UM690WT retains the interface layout of its predecessors but relocates it from the lower half to the upper half in the opposite direction. It boasts a comprehensive array of ports including USB4, USB-C 3.2 Gen2, USB-A 3.2 Gen2, USB 2.0, HDMI 2.1, 2.5G network ports, audio, and power jacks, supporting seamless communication.

Under the hood, the UM690WT is powered by AMD's Ryzen 9 6900HX, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads with an acceleration frequency of 4.9GHz. This marks an improvement over its predecessors, promising enhanced performance. The integrated Radeon 680M core display also receives a boost, with a frequency of 2400MHz, further augmenting overall capabilities.

The heat dissipation module remains consistent with previous models, featuring high-power fans, dual heat pipes, and 2 sets of heat dissipation fins and air outlets. Additionally, the CPU surface is coated with liquid gold for improved heat conduction efficiency.

In summary, the MINISFORUM UM690WT presents itself as more than just a cosmetic upgrade. With its user-friendly design enhancements and improved performance, it offers a compelling option for consumers. Priced competitively at 1,799 yuan for the barebone system, it positions itself as a strong contender in the mini PC market. For those seeking a balance between affordability and performance, the UM690WT warrants serious consideration.
