OnexPlayer has shared an early look at its next-generation external graphics dock, the ONEXGPU Lite, through a short promotional video released today. The device builds on the foundation set by the original ONEXGPU introduced in 2023, but introduces updates aimed at improving connectivity and thermal management for portable gaming setups.

The ONEXGPU Lite continues to use the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT graphics card as its core. Based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture, the GPU features 32 Compute Units (CUs) and 8GB of GDDR6 video memory. This configuration is designed to deliver desktop-class graphics performance to handheld devices and laptops that support external GPU connections.

The new model adopts Thunderbolt 5, which OnexPlayer claims offers double the PCIe bandwidth over its predecessor. This improvement helps reduce performance bottlenecks during graphics-intensive tasks. With this update, the ONEXGPU Lite becomes one of the first external GPU docks announced to support Thunderbolt 5, keeping pace with the latest high-speed peripheral standards.

In terms of design, the ONEXGPU Lite introduces several aesthetic and functional changes. The casing features a color light display matrix on the side panel, offering visual feedback and possibly customization options for users. The top surface now includes mesh openings intended to enhance airflow and maintain consistent cooling performance during extended use. These changes suggest an emphasis on both style and practical heat dissipation, addressing common challenges with compact external GPU enclosures.

The original ONEXGPU gained attention for enabling handheld consoles like the OnexPlayer series to run more demanding PC titles by offloading graphics processing to the external unit. With the ONEXGPU Lite, OnexPlayer appears to be targeting a similar audience, but with improvements that reflect newer interface standards and a more streamlined design.

OnexPlayer has not yet disclosed details about pricing or an exact release date for the ONEXGPU Lite. The company is expected to share more technical specifications and availability information in the coming weeks.

This announcement comes at a time when demand for high-performance portable gaming solutions is growing, driven by advancements in handheld PC gaming hardware and external GPU technology. The ONEXGPU Lite is positioned to complement this trend by offering a compact and updated solution for users seeking to expand their device’s graphics capabilities.
