The Retroid Pocket 6, a retro handheld gaming console, is now officially complete, and shipments are expected to begin soon. After several delays and design revisions, Retroid has released the final product images of both black and orange versions on X, accompanied by a gameplay video demonstrating the handheld running a PlayStation 2 emulator.

This latest device is designed for gamers interested in revisiting titles from older consoles. The Retroid Pocket 6 can emulate both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 2 games, allowing for smooth gameplay on a compact, portable platform. Early feedback on the device’s design prompted the manufacturer to introduce a new option for controls. Users can now select between a D-pad or a joystick for the upper left section of the handheld, a modification made in response to initial criticism of the original layout.

The development process for the handheld was not without challenges. Retroid had initially offered an early bird discount priced at $209 (approximately 1466 RMB), intended to remain available until January of the following year. However, a global shortage of memory components forced the company to end the discounted pricing early. New buyers must now pay the retail price of $229 (approximately 1607 RMB). Despite this change, the specifications of the Retroid Pocket 6 have remained unchanged. The console features a Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage, with additional storage supported through a TF card slot.

Images and videos released by Retroid suggest that the handheld is fully prepared for market release. The console retains the core features expected by retro gaming enthusiasts while addressing concerns raised during the pre-release phase. The inclusion of a configurable control layout and the ability to emulate multiple platforms highlight the versatility of the device.

According to Retroid’s official website, the first batch of pre-orders is set to ship in January, with the second batch available for pre-order and expected to reach consumers in March. The Retroid Pocket 6 is positioned as a portable solution for those seeking to play classic games on the go, combining modern hardware with the flexibility of retro emulation.

With production challenges addressed and shipping dates confirmed, the Retroid Pocket 6 marks the company’s latest step into the handheld gaming market, catering to a growing audience of players interested in retro consoles and mobile gaming solutions.
