ANBERNIC Teases New RG Slide Handheld Console with Sliding Design and 120Hz Display

ANBERNIC has released an official teaser video for its upcoming handheld gaming console, the RG Slide. The device takes inspiration from older sliding handhelds like the Sony Xperia Play and PSP Go, combining modern hardware with a retro form factor. The design features a sliding mechanism that conceals the controls beneath the screen, allowing for a more compact appearance when not in use.

The RG Slide will be available in black and white color options. It features a 4.7-inch LTPS IPS display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1280x960. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, offering smooth visual output, particularly for 2D games and classic titles. For games originally designed at lower resolutions—such as 640x480—the console supports 2x integer scaling to preserve image clarity without stretching.

The device runs on the Android operating system, allowing users to play both native Android titles and a wide range of emulated games. In the teaser, ANBERNIC demonstrated gameplay from titles like Genshin Impact, suggesting the device has sufficient performance to handle demanding mobile games. The console is also shown running emulated versions of games like God of War 2 (PS2) and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GameCube), indicating support for platforms including PlayStation 2, Wii, GameCube, and Dreamcast.

To maintain performance during extended gameplay sessions, the RG Slide includes an active cooling fan. This hardware feature is intended to reduce thermal throttling, helping to sustain high performance without frequency drops during long play periods.

While the official specifications have not yet been revealed, early reports suggest the RG Slide may be powered by the Unisoc T820 chipset. However, ANBERNIC has not confirmed the processor or other internal components.

The sliding form factor closely resembles Sony’s PSP Go, which was released in 2009. That device featured a similar sliding design and omitted the UMD drive found in previous PSP models. Instead, it used built-in storage and downloadable content from Sony’s PS Store. The PSP Go came with 16GB of internal storage and supported M2 memory cards.

According to Android Authority, Sony had filed a patent for a sliding handheld design in 2010, and that patent is set to expire later this month. This timing may explain why ANBERNIC is now moving forward with its own sliding console, as it would not be in conflict with any active intellectual property protections.

More details regarding pricing, full hardware specifications, and release dates for the RG Slide are expected soon.
