MINISFORUM Launches UM350 Entry-Level Mini PC: Powered by AMD Ryzen 5 3550H

Leading mini PC manufacturer MINISFORUM released the UM340 in April 2021. Today it launches the UM350, which is the evolutionary version of the UM340. MINISFORUM has announced that it is launching the successor to the UM340 Mini PC, the UM350, which will feature AMD's Ryzen 5 3550H APU.

The UM350 has many similarities to the UM340, but there is no doubt that the UM350 will give you a more comfortable and better gaming experience. UM350 is equipped with a Ryzen 5 3550H processor, 1200 MHz Radeon Vega 8 graphics and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed, bringing the excellent experience of Internet and Office applications, such as TV, Media player, Monitor, Projector, Printer and other equipment. It has four cores, eight threads, and a base clock speed of 2.10 GHz, just like the UM340. but the maximum boost clock is up to 3.7 GHz, making it suitable for a variety of situations.

In terms of memory and storage, the UM340 comes with dual standard 8GB x 2 DDR4 memory and a 256GB / 512GB M.2 2280 PCIe SSD option. A 2.5-inch SATA HDD slot (SATA 3.0 6.0 Gb / s) is conveniently provided for expansion. With dimensions of 127mm * 127.5mm * 51.3mm, the UM350 is small and weighs 0.50 / KGS, which makes it easy to carry from room to room and also convenient to take out the door.

The MINISFORUM announces fairly good 2D and 3D capabilities with a fairly large list of compatible games. I don't think it's a machine suitable for an inveterate gamer, but it will be sufficient to launch games of titles that are not too greedy in 3D from time to time. It's also a good multimedia and work PC for tasks that aren't too heavy or demanding.

Real-time processing or heavy rendering are to be avoided. It can be a good PC to integrate into a living room for multimedia use, an excellent MiniPC for a college or high school student, a family machine sufficient for all classic office tasks, navigation, homework and other photo processing. The only unknown is the management of the ventilation of the whole, the processor is a mobile solution but you still have to anticipate its 35 watts of TDP. Active ventilation has therefore been added, it is difficult to know how it will behave in use. Will decoding a film in UltraHD trigger sound ventilation? Launching a busy web page? opening large office documents? For the moment, it is difficult to judge.

For the rest, the connection is classic and it is here that the difference is played with the first model of MiniPC of the manufacturer released with this chip last year. The Minisforum DMAF5 is indeed very similar to the new Minisforum UM350 but differs on certain points. On the front, there is a USB Type-C port with DisplayPort support, USB 3.1 Gen1 and USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A, a combo audio jack and the machine's start button. On the back, two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort, a 19-volt power supply and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The DMAF5 offered two Ethernet ports. We also note the presence of a Kensington Lock anti-theft port.

With Windows 10 pro pre-installed, Wi-Fi6, BT5.1 and triple output, the Minisforum UM350 is now ready for sale and will begin shipping in mid-February. FREE worldwide shipping, 30 day returns, 2 year warranty and lifetime technical support are provided.

I bought a Minisforum with a 2 TB HDD and 48 M of ram. I have tried to attach my printer, an HP1102W Laser jet, but the Mini won’t recognize it after downloading the drivers. It says it is offline. I have rebooted and tried the HP quick install and still no joy. I am an old man and not very tech savvy. The printer worked fine on my old computer.
