Minisforum MDSA156 Portable Screen Now Available in China

Minisforum has officially launched its portable dual-screen device, the MDSA156, which was initially unveiled in April this year. The portable screen, designed for productivity and versatility, is now available in China. Featuring two 15.6-inch panels, each with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a refresh rate of 60Hz, the MDSA156 offers a practical solution for users requiring additional screen real estate on the go.

Design and Build

The MDSA156 weighs 1.46 kg and features a design reminiscent of Microsoft's canceled Surface Neo. Its dual-screen setup is connected by a robust hinge in the middle, allowing rotation of up to 315 degrees. This flexibility supports multiple usage modes, including tent mode and tablet mode, enhancing its adaptability in different work environments. However, the device does not include touch functionality, which may limit its interactivity in certain scenarios.

Display Specifications

Both panels of the MDSA156 are equipped with identical specifications:

  • Size: 15.6 inches each
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 pixels
  • Refresh Rate: 60Hz
  • Brightness: 250 nits
  • Contrast Ratio: 1000:1 static
  • Color Depth: 8-bit
  • Color Gamut: 45% NTSC coverage

These specifications ensure that the screens deliver adequate performance for general productivity tasks, media consumption, and multitasking. However, the color gamut coverage may fall short for professional-grade color work.

Connectivity and Mounting Options

The MDSA156 provides several connectivity options, making it compatible with a range of devices:

  • Ports: Two USB-C ports and one HDMI port
  • Mounting: VESA 75x75mm wall mounting support

The inclusion of multiple ports allows the screen to connect easily to laptops, desktops, and other devices, while the VESA mounting compatibility enables fixed installations for more permanent setups.

Use Cases

The dual-screen setup is well-suited for users who frequently work with multiple applications or need additional screen space. The hinge’s rotation capability and support for tent and tablet modes make the MDSA156 a versatile choice for professionals, students, and casual users alike. Despite the lack of touch support, the device’s functionality remains solid for traditional workflows.

Availability

Now available in China, the MDSA156 is positioned as a practical option for users seeking portable dual-screen solutions. With its lightweight design and flexible configurations, it caters to a variety of needs, from mobile workstations to secondary displays for entertainment or productivity.

Minisforum’s MDSA156 combines portability and functionality, offering an innovative approach to portable screen technology. While the absence of touch functionality and limited color gamut coverage may not appeal to all users, the device’s versatile design and robust feature set make it a competitive choice in its category.
