Antec Introduces Core Micro Handheld Console, Partnering Again with AyaNeo
Antec has officially unveiled its second handheld gaming console, the Core Micro, on its website. Continuing its collaboration with AyaNeo, the new device shares striking similarities with AyaNeo’s Pocket Micro model, suggesting a rebranded approach rather than a wholly original design.
Compact Design and Android Foundation
The Core Micro is powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, a mid-range chipset built on a 6nm process. It features a dual-cluster architecture with two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. Graphics are handled by the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, ensuring moderate performance for Android-based gaming and applications.
The handheld runs on the Android operating system, optimized for portable gaming and media consumption. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, offering ample space for games, apps, and multimedia files. A MicroSD card slot is also included, allowing for expandable storage.
The Core Micro features a 3.5-inch IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 960×640 pixels, providing 100% sRGB color gamut coverage for vibrant and accurate colors. While compact, the screen size and resolution are tailored for retro and indie games rather than graphically demanding titles.
Intuitive Input and Control Layout
Antec has equipped the Core Micro with dual Hall-effect joysticks, ensuring smooth and precise input for gaming. The button layout follows the traditional YXBA configuration, familiar to most gamers. Additionally, the handheld includes L1/L2 and R1/R2 triggers, designed for responsive gameplay in various genres.
Connectivity and Expandability
The Core Micro supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, providing reliable wireless connectivity for online gaming, media streaming, and accessory pairing. The inclusion of a USB-C port ensures compatibility with modern peripherals and charging standards. The device also offers a MicroSD card slot, catering to users who require additional storage for large game libraries or multimedia files.
Market Position and Potential
With the launch of the Core Micro, Antec appears to be strengthening its presence in the handheld gaming market, leveraging its partnership with AyaNeo. By offering a compact and affordable alternative, the Core Micro targets retro gaming enthusiasts and casual gamers seeking portability without sacrificing functionality.
Pricing and availability details have not yet been disclosed, but the device is expected to attract attention from gamers looking for a pocket-friendly handheld console.
