AOOSTAR Announces EG01 Graphics Card Dock with Dual Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink Interfaces
AOOSTAR has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of the EG01 graphics card dock, a new external GPU solution aimed at Mini PC users and enthusiasts seeking additional graphics performance. The dock follows an open design concept and has been announced for the global market, though details regarding pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed.
Open Design with Flexible Power Options
The EG01 adopts a fully open-frame layout that sets it apart from many closed eGPU enclosures currently available. Unlike products that include integrated power supplies, AOOSTAR’s design requires users to install their own ATX or SFX power supply. This choice provides flexibility for different builds and allows users to select a power unit that matches their graphics card’s requirements.
The dock includes a dedicated bracket to secure the graphics card, similar to earlier AOOSTAR models such as the DEG1 and Link S-3. Both the graphics card and power supply are arranged vertically, providing a compact yet accessible structure for installation and maintenance.
Mini PC Compatibility
One of the defining features of the EG01 is its ability to accommodate AOOSTAR’s own Mini PCs. A bracket located above the power supply area functions as a mounting platform, sized specifically to fit the G-FLIP flip-screen Mini PC. This integration creates a combined system that places both the Mini PC and external graphics card solution within the same frame, simplifying the overall setup for users who prefer a compact yet expandable computing solution.
Connectivity with Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink
The EG01 introduces dual connectivity options, offering both Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink interfaces. This combination makes it the first graphics card dock on the market to feature both standards.
OCuLink is optimized for GPU connections, providing lower latency and reduced performance overhead compared to Thunderbolt. This allows graphics cards to operate with minimal loss of efficiency, which is particularly important for high-end GPUs. On the other hand, Thunderbolt 5 provides broader compatibility, high bandwidth for multiple devices, and up to 150W of USB Power Delivery. While Thunderbolt offers more versatility, it typically introduces higher latency and a slight reduction in GPU performance when compared to OCuLink.
Availability
AOOSTAR has positioned the EG01 as a flexible solution for Mini PC users who want to expand graphics performance without moving to a traditional desktop tower. However, the company has not yet announced a release date or pricing details for the EG01. Additional information is expected as the product approaches its official market launch.
