AYANEO Unveils FLIP 1S DS: A Refined Dual-Screen Windows Handheld Console
AYANEO has officially introduced the FLIP 1S DS, the latest iteration in its dual-screen flip handheld lineup. Building on the foundation laid by the original FLIP DS, the new model brings notable upgrades across display, performance, and usability, while maintaining the unique clamshell design that sets the series apart.
The FLIP 1S DS features a 7-inch 1080p OLED main screen, now upgraded with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of brightness. With enhanced contrast and response times, the screen aims to deliver smoother gameplay and improved clarity, particularly for fast-paced titles such as first-person shooters and action games. The use of OLED technology is a significant move, offering deeper blacks and richer colors compared to LCD panels typically found in handheld consoles.
The secondary display, one of the FLIP series' most distinctive features, also sees an upgrade. The new 4.5-inch IPS panel offers a 1620 x 1080 resolution with a 3:2 aspect ratio, which AYANEO says is particularly suitable for retro titles and productivity tasks. It reaches up to 550 nits in brightness and is designed to support a range of use cases—from displaying system stats and guides to running additional tools or software side by side with a game.
At the heart of the FLIP 1S DS is the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor. Built on AMD’s latest mobile architecture, this chip is designed to handle modern AAA games and multitasking with ease, while also introducing built-in AI acceleration features. While AI workloads are becoming more relevant for various applications, the FLIP 1S DS mainly uses these capabilities to enhance system responsiveness and efficiency.
Thermal management remains a critical component in portable gaming hardware. The FLIP 1S DS implements a dual-cooling system combining a vapor chamber with an active fan setup. This approach helps manage heat output during high-performance gaming sessions, aiming to keep the system stable and responsive under sustained loads.
In terms of controls, the FLIP 1S DS includes a new TMR electromagnetic joystick with a 1000Hz polling rate. This joystick is designed for precision, offering no drift and quick response times, making it suitable for genres requiring accurate input. The console retains a familiar gamepad layout, with improved button feel and longer travel for a more tactile experience.
The device also gets an upgrade in build quality with a CNC-machined full-metal top panel, which enhances both the look and durability. The hinge now supports stepless adjustment, allowing for flexible screen angles whether in handheld use or when docked.
Connectivity is bolstered with dual USB4 ports, enabling fast data transfer, charging, and support for external displays or docks. This flexibility positions the FLIP 1S DS not only as a gaming device but also as a portable productivity tool.
Software-wise, the console runs AYANEO’s AYASpace 3.0, a redesigned management interface that consolidates key settings and functions. It introduces features such as a customizable layout, advanced control options, and a dedicated pause function for system-level control.
Overall, the AYANEO FLIP 1S DS represents a comprehensive refinement of the company’s dual-screen concept. With meaningful updates to its display, processing power, control precision, and software ecosystem, it aims to deliver a more flexible and capable Windows handheld experience for gaming, multitasking, and beyond. The device reflects AYANEO’s continued focus on blending form and function in the evolving handheld PC market.
