GPD WIN 5 with AMD Strix Halo Processor to Launch at ChinaJoy 2025

GPD has officially announced that its next handheld gaming console, the GPD WIN 5, will be introduced during ChinaJoy 2025, taking place from August 1 to August 4 in Shanghai. This marks GPD's continued push into the handheld gaming PC market, bringing significant upgrades over previous generations.

The GPD WIN 5 will feature at least one version equipped with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 “Strix Halo” processor. This processor belongs to AMD’s latest lineup, designed to deliver high performance with strong integrated graphics and support for hardware-accelerated features. GPD is positioning this device as a solution for gamers who want desktop-level gaming on a handheld system.

According to test data provided by GPD, the WIN 5 has been used to run Black Myth: Wukong, a graphics-intensive title that serves as a benchmark for modern PC performance. The results show a frame rate of over 200 FPS when the character is idle and approximately 170 FPS during battles. The power draw under this load is between 55W and 61W, while the device maintains a temperature around 66°C. These numbers suggest a strong cooling system and power management for a device of its size.

Earlier rumors surrounding the Strix Halo-based handheld prototypes mentioned the absence of a built-in battery. The aim was to dedicate more internal space to advanced cooling. While this was part of early design discussions, it is still unclear whether the final retail version of the WIN 5 will follow the same structure. GPD has yet to confirm battery capacity or whether the device will rely solely on external power for high-load gaming.

The WIN 5 is expected to continue GPD’s traditional design language, with integrated gamepad controls and a compact keyboard. The addition of a high-performance processor such as the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 likely means significant changes in the thermal layout, possibly with an upgraded fan system or larger heat dissipation modules.

Additional technical specifications, pricing, and availability details will likely be revealed during the ChinaJoy 2025 event. GPD is set to showcase the device to media and the public, highlighting its capabilities and new design direction.

As competition increases in the handheld PC segment, the GPD WIN 5 could become a key product for users seeking a portable device with desktop-class power.
