8BitDo FlipPad Mobile Vertical Game Controller Opens Pre-Orders for $30, Ships Worldwide on July 30

8BitDo has announced the FlipPad, a new mobile gaming controller designed for portrait-mode gameplay. The company confirmed that pre-orders will open on July 15, while overseas shipments are scheduled to begin on July 30. The controller will be available for $30, offering an affordable option for players looking for physical controls when gaming on smartphones.

Unlike most mobile controllers that are built for landscape gaming, the FlipPad focuses on users who spend more time playing titles in a vertical orientation. This makes it suitable for many mobile games, including arcade, puzzle, card, rhythm, and other portrait-based experiences that are popular on both Android and iOS devices.

The FlipPad connects directly to a smartphone through a USB Type-C connector, eliminating the need for Bluetooth pairing or charging the controller separately. Once plugged into the phone's USB-C port, the controller folds over and attaches to the front of the device using a flip-style mechanism. This design allows users to keep the phone in portrait orientation while having physical controls positioned on both sides of the display.

The controller also features a color scheme inspired by classic gaming hardware. It includes black directional buttons, burgundy ABXY buttons, gray Start and Select buttons, along with six white buttons that are expected to function as shoulder and trigger inputs. This gives users access to additional controls for games that support external controllers.

8BitDo has confirmed compatibility with both Android and iOS, allowing the FlipPad to work across the two major mobile platforms. At launch, the controller will be available in a beige finish, and the company has not announced any additional color options.
