MANGMI Technology has officially introduced the AIR X, a new Android-based retro handheld gaming console targeting the entry-level market. Launched last month, the AIR X aims to offer a balance of portability, performance, and affordability, positioned as a capable device for emulator and Android gaming.

The AIR X features a minimalist design with a focus on ergonomics and comfort. The exterior shell is constructed using a skin-friendly material, and the grip has been designed to fit naturally in the user’s hands. The company claims this approach enhances long-term usability during gaming sessions. The device is powered by a 5000mAh battery, supporting up to 15W fast charging, which is expected to reduce downtime between gaming.

Under the hood, the handheld console is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 processor and an Adreno 610 GPU. This combination provides sufficient processing power for a range of applications, including popular Android games and various emulator platforms. MANGMI has paired the chipset with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. The inclusion of expandable storage options was not specified in the initial announcement.

The AIR X is fitted with a 5.5-inch touchscreen display featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The screen adopts a 16:9 aspect ratio and supports 110% of the sRGB color gamut, aiming to deliver vivid visuals. It also offers a maximum brightness of 450 nits, which should allow for reasonable outdoor visibility. The display is fully touch-enabled, enhancing navigation within the Android operating system and supporting various touch-based games.

On the software side, the handheld runs Android 14, giving users access to the Google Play ecosystem for downloading apps and games. MANGMI has also integrated its proprietary “M Space” interface. This customized front-end is designed to streamline gaming-related functions and provide a more console-like experience. Features include game library organization, performance profiles, and quick access to emulator platforms.

The AIR X is positioned as part of MANGMI’s strategy to expand into the handheld gaming segment with affordable yet capable devices. Pricing details and regional availability have not been disclosed, but the device is expected to compete in markets where budget-friendly handhelds have seen growing interest.

With its combination of Android 14, Snapdragon hardware, and a tailored user interface, the AIR X enters a space that has been gaining momentum, driven by demand for portable gaming solutions that bridge the gap between smartphones and dedicated consoles.
